Operations Shift Supervisor - Glass Making

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings ‚€“ carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Scope of Position:


As the Operations Shift Supervisor, you will serve as the key point of contact for shift operations on a 24X7 schedule as it relates to safety, quality and productivity. You will be the role model for safety by walking the talk on safety, leading and facilitating the team to world-class, day-to-day, safety performance. You will provide the supervision and facilitation to a team of technicians responsible for the manufacture of preforms and/or optical fiber.

Day to Day Responsibilities:



  • Understands and applies established guidelines, procedures and policies

  • Provides immediate supervision to subordinates to execute operations

  • Provides daily feedback on individual and team performance

  • Prepares and provides reports to supervisory chain

  • Coordinates daily activities of team and support organizations

  • Conduct hourly/direct labor employee performance evaluations and provide mentoring as needed.

  • Ensure team executes documented operating procedures and follows established document control protocols.

  • Ensure the protection of Corning's Intellectual Property (IP)

  • Implement and monitor training and certification plans.

  • Hold reports accountable for alignment to established procedures and set points for process control; ensures awareness and compliance to changes.

Travel Requirements: Less than 5%

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: Will need to be able to work 12 hours shifts that rotate between day and nights. This will include weekends and holidays as required as our facility is 24/7.

Required Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering preferred) with 2+ years of Manufacturing experience - or - Enrolled in College level courses plus 4 or more years in a Manufacturing leadership role.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
