Process Engineer II

Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings ‚€“ carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Works with other team members to tackle technical, engineering-related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions, and cost reduction projects. Supports drive towards fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer. Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology and/or improvements in existing technology, resulting in a strong product in terms of quality and cost.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation.

  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.

  • Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues, building detailed technical insight into key process steps.

  • Provide trend analysis of key metrics and implement response plans.

  • Lead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products/processes.

  • Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.

  • Recommend/implement improvements to processes and equipment.

  • Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions.

  • Provide leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines.

  • Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.

  • Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes.


Travel Requirements: Less than 5%


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 8-10 hours/day; 40-50 hours/week. This position requires off-hours coverage on nights and weekends on a rotating basis with co-workers.



  • BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Chemical, Materials, or Ceramic Engineering

  • 3+ years of engineering work experience in a manufacturing environment.


Required Skills:

  • Are you creative and innovative in your approach to problem solving.

  • Does your experience include strong technical fundamentals with focus in systematic, root-cause understanding.

  • Do you posses strong data analysis and statistical skills? We are seeking something that is proficient with Microsoft Excel and Access (queries, databases).

  • Do you possess experience with experimental design.

  • Do you have confirmed experience to multitask and prioritize work in a dynamic manufacturing environment?

  • Ability to organize and lead all phases of both small and large-scale projects, independently directing schedules and objectives?

  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

  • Do you have experience working with on all levels of an organization?


Desired Skills:

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt certification.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting.

  • Project management experience.

  • Experience with statistical packages such as Minitab.


Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work within a team and provide training to others.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
