Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings ‚€“ carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.


Optical Measurement Engineer Works with other team members to solve difficult technical, engineering related problems. Supports or leads continuous improvement activities, new product or process introductions, and cost reduction projects. Supports commitment to fundamental process understanding and lowest cost producer objectives. Supports the development and execution of plans to evaluate new technology or improvements in existing technology resulting in a superior product in terms of quality and/or cost.


Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering-level production support to optical measurement equipment throughout the facility.

  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.

  • Understand process quality architecture internal/external risks.

  • Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues.

  • Provide trend analysis of key metrics and implement response plans.

  • Lead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products/processes.

  • Actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.

  • Recommend/implement improvements to processes and equipment.

  • Identify chronic issues and recommend corrective actions.

  • Provide leadership or support for startup of new equipment lines.

  • Develop and update engineering and operations documentation.

  • Provide training for operations workforce regarding equipment or operations changes.


Travel Requirements: Travel will be minimal for this role; less than 5%.


Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 8-10 hours/day; 40-50 hours/week. This position requires off-hours coverage on nights and weekends on a rotating basis with co-workers.


Education & Requirements:

  • BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Optical, Electrical, Physics/Applied Physics, Mechanical or Chemical.

  • 2-5 years of engineering work and/or intern experience as measurements engineer in a manufacturing environment.


Required Skills:

  • Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Should be proficient with Microsoft Excel and Access (queries, databases).

  • Ability to learn new technology and processes quickly.

  • We are looking for someone that has a creative and innovative approach to problem solving. This should also include strong troubleshooting fundamentals.

  • Process engineering knowledge. Experienced with design of experiments and process improvement

  • Understanding of and experience working in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.


Desired Skills:

  • Experience with various statistical packages including SAS and Minitab

  • Experience with optical wave guides, network installation or networking understanding for data centers.

  • Metrology and precision measuring experience or understanding are important.

  • Six Sigma Green Belt or DMAIC project experience

  • Knowledge of basic electrical systems including motors, actuators, slides, measurements equipment, etc.

  • Knowledge of Fiber Optic manufacturing process and product attributes; knowledge of optics and optical systems.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting; understand the big picture of how things affect profitability and the overall success of the division.

  • Project management experience and/or experience leading projects or critical aspects of projects.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
