Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings ‚€“ carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Your main responsibility is to ensure that complex manufacturing equipment and processes meet daily production requirements in terms of safety, quality and, reliability. You will monitor process attributes daily, initiate and verify responses throughout the support chain. You will also participate in synchronization efforts by actively receiving new technology and processes. As part of this role, you will be expected to seek out and implement cost reduction opportunities. You will also utilize your knowledge in various controls platforms, and manufacturing engineering principles.

This position will serve as manufacturing controls resource for the Automation Engineering group in Corning's Concord, NC facility.

Essential skills & duties:

  • You will provide high quality process support for a dynamic 24 x 7 manufacturing environment.

  • You will track daily production/quality metrics and plan reactionary measures as needed.

  • Will own performance of key attributes: develop and maintain tracking tools, report out on daily discrepancies, and lead long term performance.

  • You will utilize you experience with various electro-mechanical systems daily.

  • You will use your equipment and process troubleshooting skills to support day to day operations and projects.

  • Work closely with support technicians to resolve equipment issues.

  • You will provide incremental training on new equipment or process changes as needed.

  • Ensure all equipment and processes are safe to operate. Understanding of NEC and other pertinent safety codes.

  • Ability to work across various functional groups daily to accomplish goals: Operations, IT, Facilities, Project Engineering, QE, etc.

Educational Level & Required Skills:

  • B.S. Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering with proven controls aptitude.

  • We are seeking someone with 5 or more years' equipment/controls experience in manufacturing.

  • Experience with Allen Bradley controllers and associated hardware including: PLC and I/O devices, motion control, various communication protocols, field wiring and disconnect devices.

  • Ability to debug and monitor PLC code ‚€“ both ladder logic and structured text.

  • Knowledge and experience with Fanuc Robots and TPP.

  • Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor or other 3D modeling software.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Experience with electro-mechanical devices such as: servo motors, valves, sensing devices and conveyors.

  • Experience with industrial vision systems and scanning devices.

  • Ability to generate and interpret electrical drawings using AutoCAD Electrical.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with mechanical prototyping and process development.

  • Understanding of project management skills.

  • Seeks to identify and correct potential safety or environmental issues before they occur.

  • Working knowledge of data analysis techniques using Microsoft Excel and Access.

  • Understanding of Six Sigma techniques.

  • Knowledge of ANSI standards, NFPA and NEC applicable Electrical Codes.

  • Ensure safety procedures, such as Lock-Out Tag-Out, are followed at all times.

  • Understand regulations applicable to area of expertise and works to ensure compliance.

Soft Skills:

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
